About John
Seattle based commercial photographer, John Granen is both artist and technician. He looks forward to shooting spaces or concepts that require unique problem solving solutions. "It's really about painting with light, whether than be natural or artificial. In the end the image should feel like a place that the viewer wants to escape into; for me that's all about shooting in or creating ambient light."
John is best known for his extensive portfolio of gorgeous and sometimes ethereal interior, garden and food photography. Some of his clients include Metropolitan Home, Traditional Home, House and Gardens, Elle Décor, Gourmet Magazine, Smith and Hawken, Teragren Bamboo Flooring, Eddie Bauer Home, LL Bean, Snoqualmie Gormet Ice Cream, and many more.
With a career that spans over twenty years John has worked to create images for editorial and commercial clients in cities all over the country and the world. Some of these cities include: London, Vancouver BC, Cincinnati, Dallas, Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.
While John is best known for his interiors and food photography he does not shy away from shooting people in environments, "it often adds just the right amount of life that a space needs to give it character," says Granen. "Shooting people in a home or a building setting adds another layer to the visual story I am trying to tell."
When Granen is not shooting he can be found on the golf course, the squash court or kayaking down a river. John lives in Seattle.
